Your Baroque Favourites
Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
Charles, our Music Director, says there’s something about Baroque music that’s so compelling…it’s some of the most popular Classical music. Perhaps it’s the rhythm, the steady pulse that we all love.
Beyond that, with Bach in particular, but also the Handel and Telemann, it’s the counterpoint, that is, so many things happening at once, all perfectly organized into a harmonious whole.

Everybody Loves Mozart
Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
Mozart is all elegance and perfection; the beautiful melodies, the uplifting rhythms, the virtuoso playing… we’ve got lots of that, with Toronto husband-and-wife team Michael Berkovsky and Coral Solomon. How often do you hear a concerto for 2 pianos? This is a truly sparkling example!
Also featured is his “Paris Symphony”, which is influenced by French trends of the time, which include a large orchestra playing grand entrances. Mozart’s Symphony #39 is one of his three last great symphonies; it’s not clear what occasion they were written for, but they are all masterpieces and #39 is a splendid, lyrical, moving testament to Mozart’s talent!

Super Talented Youth!
Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts
For 10 years now we have been proud of our Youth Concerto Competition; several of our winners have been mentioned in CBC’s 30 Under 3, such as Justin Saulnier from last year’s 30 Hot Canadian classical musicians under 30,
It is not unusual for winners to come back to play with us from as far away as London, England; Adriel Sloss will come back from studies in Los Angeles! This is such an exciting concert!

Darkness to Light
St John’s United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville
Charles, our Music Director, writes:
We all experience difficulties in life, and negative things will happen, ideally, we deal with them, and move on/move back to a state of positivity. One of my favourite concert ideas is the process of darkness to light, in which this facing of challenges and moving forward to positivity is expressed, and celebrated.
This version of the theme moves away from the personal and towards the universal. Brantford composer Ronald Beckett has written a moving tribute to our relationship with the natural world, entitled Nature’s Cry. It addresses, on an emotional level, the state of our connection to the animals that we share on the planet.
