As you wander through the museum, you’ll find captivating exhibits and knowledgeable staff ready to share insights and answer questions. This Family Day, discover St. Catharines’ rich and diverse food traditions with family-friendly-food related activities at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre between 10am and 3pm where you will find something for everyone, including:
- Guided Tours of the Museum’s Collection Vaults
10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm
Take a guided tour of the Museum’s collection vaults, not normally open to the public, and see some of the over 800,000 objects in the Museum’s collection. Tours are limited to 10 people. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Please sign up for the tour at the information desk. Sign-ups are only available in-person. - You Can Can!

Join Sean and Abbey as they explore the history of canning on a brief gallery tour, and then make your own canning label for a can of food! You get to take the food home and try it out with a historic recipe from the Museum’s collection! Great for kids of all ages accompanied by an adult. This activity is available while supplies last. - To the Laboratory!

Come get your hands dirty with Abbey and Sean as they explore the stories and science of how food works! What does baking powder do? How do we make butter? And more! Good for all ages, great for kids 6-12 accompanied by an adult. - A Dash Of…Sharing!

Share your favourite family recipe on the recipe wall as we collect the “food profile” of the community. Look for this activity in the Lobby. - Colour Me This

Grab an activity guide to help explore the museum and learn more about our local history of food. This year’s activity guide is in two parts: part one is released on Family Day and part two is released on March Break! See you then! Colouring and family “chill” stations are also available in the Lobby Gallery. - Visit the Museum

Visit the newly redeveloped Museum galleries, and our latest temporary exhibit “Food, Glorious Food!” Grab a Family Guide, a Discovery Backback or a Wellness backpack from the information desk to help you navigate the Museum.
No registration required. Admission to the Museum and Family Day programs are open to the public by donation.
