Established in 2000 as a millennium project, Doors Open Toronto was the first event of its kind in North America, inspired by similar programs in Europe. Since its inception, it has attracted over two million visits to nearly 700 unique locations, solidifying its status as one of Canada’s most culturally significant events.
The theme for the 2025 edition is “The City is Your Playground; Get Ready to Play,” aiming to explore Toronto’s playful development through its most significant buildings and sites. From sports arenas to music halls and theatre venues, participants will have the opportunity to engage with the joyful, irreverent, and sometimes serious aspects of play that have shaped the city’s identity. One of the notable venues participating in this year’s event is The Redwood Theatre, located at 1300 Gerrard St E. On May 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., The Redwood will host circus shows and other performances, with its lounge, bar, and French Café open to visitors.
