Over 300 contemporary artists showcase their work at Canada’s largest
& longest running juried outdoor exhibition
The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition celebrates its 55th year as Canada’s largest and longest running outdoor art exhibition from July 8 to 10, 2016 at Nathan Phillips Square. This free public event showcases works by over 300 contemporary visual artists, ranging from painting, photography and mixed media to jewellery and ceramics, and attracts 100,000 visitors.
This year’s jury comprised of seasoned art professionals, reviewed more than 700 applications and selected 314 artists, in the following five categories: Painting, 2D Media (Drawing, Illustration, Mixed Media, Print Making); 3D Media (Ceramics, Fibre, Glass, Sculpture, Wood); Photography & Digital Media; and Wearable Artwork (Jewellery, Textile). The full 2016 Artist Roster is now live on the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition website.
“For the past 55 years, thousands of promising and exceptional artists have launched their careers from a simple white tent on the square,” said Anahita Azrahimi, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition’s Executive Director. “Our historical awards program is unique in Canada and is a reflection of our deep commitment to celebrating artistic excellence. This year we have taken our commitment a huge step further by consolidating and increasing our awards to create opportunities for the artists that truly advance their careers, provide public recognition and a significant financial contribution.
Founded in 1961 by Murray and Marvelle Koffler, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition was established to nurture artistic excellence and artists’ entrepreneurial spirit, and to showcase contemporary art to the general public. In celebration of the 55th anniversary year, Murray and Marvelle Koffler have increased the Founding Chairman’s Award to $5,500. The Randolf P. Bratty Family Foundation has contributed $5,500 for the Best of Exhibition Award. In total, close to $30,000 in awards will be presented to artists at the 2016 Exhibition. Winners will be chosen by artistic leaders and industry professionals and announced at the awards party on Friday, July 9, 2016 at 5:30 pm.
