International comedy sensation, OMID DJALILI, makes his Toronto stand-up debut after a sold out UK and International Tour with his newest show, “SCHMUCK FOR A NIGHT,” for one night only, Saturday, September 24th at 8:00 pm at Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre (189 Yonge St.). The newly announced Omid Djalili show will be a specially added “JFL42” event, sponsored by SwissVBS, and billed as “ACT 43” in the fifth annual Festival taking the stage across Toronto from September 22 to October 1.
The award-winning British-Iranian stand-up and an acclaimed actor (The Infidel, Gladiator, The Mummy, Shaun the Sheep Movie and TV’s Whoopi) is a brilliant, sometimes provocative and always hugely entertaining performer that puts political correctness aside to deliver big belly laughs.
One of Britain’s freshest and most original comics, Omid Djalili hams up the accents and underlines the clichés before pulling the Persian rug out from under the audience. With a career in comedy spanning across three decades, including two Royal Variety Show gala appearances in the presence of HRH Prince Charles and family, multiple appearances in Montreal with JFL, and a 2003 Gemini Award nomination for “Best Individual Performance in a Comedy Program or Series” for his appearance in a Just For Laughs television special, Omid Djalili’s legendary performances on stage and screen have won him fans and plaudits the world over.

Award-winning comedian and actor Omid Djalili has gained international acclaim for his stand-up as well as comedic and dramatic acting roles on stage, film and TV.
British-Iranian Omid Djalili has twice won the Edinburgh Spirit of the Fringe and Time Out’s Best Stand-Up awards. His energetic, full-on cabaret routine mixes observations, caricatures, and stories which mock stereotypes and play on preconceptions. Described by The Guardian as “one of the most subversive, let alone funniest, comedians around,” he often sneaks thought-provoking ideas into gag-filled routines.
As an actor, Omid has appeared on the big screen in everything from The Mummy and Casanova to Mean Machine and Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End. He’s made appearances in Gladiator, Sex and The City 2, Notting Hill and The World Is Not Enough. Other film credits include Shaun the Sheep Movie, Jason & The Argonauts and Spy Game. He starred in the David Baddiel-penned film, The Infidel, playing a Muslim who discovers his Jewish heritage, and starred as Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh’s London West End production of Oliver! He also provided the voice of Yusuf Amir in the “Grand Theft Auto” series of games and was an Executive Producer of the acclaimed Iraq war protest documentary, We Are Many.
On television, Omid has appeared in comedies on both sides of the Atlantic, cropping up in Black Books and British comedian Jack Lee’s Lead Balloons, and co-starring with Whoopi Goldberg in her sitcom,Whoopi. He starred in two series of his own sketch and stand-up show on BBC One, and was only the second British comic (after Eddie Izzard) to be given his own HBO special.
