About Fort York National Historic Site
Fort York National Historic Site, located in downtown Toronto, is one of Canada’s most significant historical landmarks. Established in 1793 by British colonial authorities, the fort played a key role in defending the settlement of York (now Toronto) during the War of 1812, especially in the Battle of York in 1813. Today, it preserves and showcases Toronto’s rich military history, featuring original 19th-century buildings, military artifacts, and exhibits that explore the early colonial and military life in Canada.
