Get ready to experience the magic of the holiday season at Winter Nights, City Lights, happening on November 15 and 16, 2024, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Esplanade Park and the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex in Pickering. This beloved annual event transforms the heart of the city into a dazzling winter wonderland, complete with sparkling festive décor, live entertainment, and a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the night sky.

The celebration offers something for everyone, making it a perfect outing for families, friends, and neighbours to come together and share in the festive cheer. Visitors can enjoy live performances, explore artisan markets for unique holiday gifts, and savour delicious treats from a variety of food vendors. A stunning new art installation and Instagram-worthy photo opportunities provide the perfect backdrop to capture the joy of the season. Plus, it’s all for a good cause — St. Paul’s on the Hill Food Bank will be on-site collecting food and toy donations, giving attendees a chance to spread holiday kindness to those in need.

Event Highlights

  • Art Illuminations
    Migizi (Bald Eagle) Saves The World is a new temporary public artwork by Nyle Miigizi Johnston to be installed on the balcony (facing Esplanade Park) of City Hall. The work is to be unveiled on November 15, and it will remain on site until January 31, 2025. This work is funded by Ontario Power Generation (OPG).
  • Skating Rink
    Synthetic Ice and Skate Rentals will be available on Saturday only. CSA-approved hockey helmet is required for children 5 years and under and recommended for all ages.
  • Roaming Characters
    Snag a visit and photo with The Grinch, Jack Frost, Winter King, a Nut Cracker & a Toy Soldier!
  • Inflatable Games
    Enjoy basketball, hockey, axe throwing, and an all-in-one game!
  • Photo Stations

  • Pickering Community Concert Band
    PCCB will be performing some holiday songs for a holiday sing-along in the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex Lobby.

  • Black Joy Holiday Market
    PABRT and DFCC host the second Black Joy Holiday Market in the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex Salons on Friday only.

Free parking is available at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, but spaces are limited. Visitors are encouraged to walk, take public transit, or ride-share to make their trip easier and more environmentally friendly. For those bringing furry friends along, dogs are welcome as long as they remain leashed throughout the event.
