Joseph Brant Museum, Burlington

From November 10, 2024 to April 10, 2025, the Joseph Brant Museum is thrilled to host a special screening of Peace by Chocolate, an inspiring and heartwarming Canadian film that tells the true story of a Syrian refugee family and their journey to rebuild their lives in Canada through the power of chocolate. Directed by Jonathan Keijser, this moving narrative focuses on Tareq Hadhad and his family, who flee war-torn Syria to settle in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where they revive their once-thriving chocolate business. The film’s message of resilience, hope, and the universal language of kindness resonates deeply with audiences, making it a fitting feature for the museum’s ongoing cultural programming.

The Joseph Brant Museum screening offers a unique opportunity for viewers to not only enjoy this touching story but also to engage in a deeper conversation about the themes of immigration, community, and cultural exchange. The Hadhad family’s experiences mirror the journey of many newcomers to Canada, making this film a timely exploration of the challenges and triumphs of starting anew in a foreign land. Audiences will witness how a small town came together to support a family in need, and how chocolate became a symbol of healing and unity.
